2015 Favourites

As a part of my Reflections on 2015 post I was going to include my ‘favourites’ of 2015, but when I realised just how many categories I had, it became obvious that it needed its own post. One of the things I love most about blogging is reading everyone’s monthly favourites posts, whether it’s just beauty favourites, the TV shows everyone’s been enjoying for the month or just a bunch of unrelated things that have made someone happy for the past 30 days.

I should point out before I jump right in that whilst some categories include only things that were released in 2015 (e.g. films), others are just things that featured heavily this year, or things I discovered for the first time.

My 5 favourite books:

Game of Thrones – George R. R. Martin

As I mentioned in my What I’m Reading Whilst I’m Away post, I’ve finally caught up with the rest of the world and have started reading the Game of Thrones books. I loved the first book, but I can’t decide whether to finish the books before I start on the TV series…

The Book Thief – Markus Zusak

As well as being one of my top reads of 2015, this book definitely makes its way into my all-time favourites.

The Secret History – Donna Tartt

If you’ve never read anything by Donna Tartt, you need to change that immediately. If not this one, then try The Goldfinch.

Not That Kind of Girl – Lena Dunham

I don’t usually enjoy non-fiction books, but I found Lena Dunham’s book such a compelling read.

If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things – Jon McGregor

The ambiguity of the plot and the unconventional narrative style made this a stand-out book for me this year.

My most played albums of the year:

Lianne La Havas – Blood

In case you haven’t noticed yet, I adore Lianne La Havas, and there was absolutely no contest for my favourite album of 2015.

Taylor Swift – 1989

Although I was always a fan of Taylor’s country roots, I also love the new musical direction of 1989 and it powered me through many a gym session this year.

RHODES – Wishes

I’ve not exactly kept my love for RHODES a secret on the blog, and there’s no doubt that this was one of my most played albums over the last few months.

Hozier – Hozier

This is one of those albums that I just cannot get bored of. However many times I play it, it never becomes overplayed. I can’t wait to see what Hozier does in 2016.

James Bay – Chaos and the Calm

I’ve been a fan of this album since it first came out, but it’s definitely grown on me more and more as the year has gone on.

My top 5 films of 2015:

Inside Out

Disney/ Pixar films are always winners with me, and I thought the concept of Inside Out was amazing. Definitely one I’ll be watching again next year.

Jurassic World

I was so excited for this film to come out, and if anything it managed to exceed my expectations.

Cinderella

Fairy tale remakes are another of my favourite things, and my review of this film was actually my comeback to blogging!

Legend

My brother dragged me along to this one, but I really enjoyed it. It’s worth seeing just for Tom Hardy’s impressive portrayals of the Kray twins.

Spy

I LOVE films with Melissa McCarthy in, they never fail to make me laugh.

5 TV shows I became addicted to:

Once Upon a Time

As I said before, reimagined fairy tales are a particular weakness of mine, so Once Upon a Time ticks all the boxes. I’m amazed I’ve only made it through one season so far. Get a move on, gal.

Orange is the New Black

I’m not going to lie, I thought I hated this series for approx. the first five episodes, but oh my goodness I was so wrong.

Pretty Little Liars

If you haven’t heard of PLL then you probably haven’t been on the internet this year. I can confirm that it is worth the hype.

House of Cards

Another one you can’t have possibly missed. Although I do have to save House of Cards for evenings I can give it my full concentration.

Downton Abbey

I’ve always watched Downton, but I really got into it this year. But I haven’t seen the Christmas special yet, so no spoilers please!

Beauty products I couldn’t have survived without:

The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser

Now that I’ve used this moisturiser I can’t imagine going back to anything else. I’ve already rebought it about three times, because it is that good.

Benefit Roller Lash

It is going to be tough going back to drugstore mascara after this one…

Urban Decay Naked Palette

Because 2015 was the year I fell in love with eyeshadow. I know, I know, I’m late to the party.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer

Aka the best high-street concealer I’ve tried, and definitely a new staple in my makeup bag.

Rimmel 107 Lipstick

I am so glad I picked up this little gem by accident, because I’ve worn it non-stop throughout the whole of the festive period.
