Christmas #OOTD

Photos by Tom Buckley
I’ve been daring myself for a while to do a fashion post. Like a full-blown hi here I am modelling my own clothes and pretending not to be awkward about it kind of post. I love clothes, and I love reading fashion blogs and swooning over outfit photos, but the prospect of standing in front of a camera and trying to look like I know what I’m doing has always terrified me. Plus, I don’t really consider my wardrobe to be super fashionable.

BUT it’s Christmas, and having missed out on doing Blogmas due to travelling, I also needed to squeeze in a festive post before it was too late. And so was born my Christmas outfit of the day (#ootd).

It seems like there are two kinds of people on Christmas day: those who refuse to wear anything other than pyjamas for the entire day, and those who see the day as an excuse to go dressy. At home we tend to be the latter. Or at least I do.

The photos for this post were supposed to be taken inside the house, in various festive-looking locations, but thanks to the dull, grey English weather, daylight didn’t quite make it to the Christmas tree. Hashtag blogger problems. But I figured any kind of tree was better than none, so off we went into the woods.

I first saw this Topshop playsuit this time last year and instantly fell in love. Sadly, it was a bit out of my student price range, and I thought this tragic little story would end here. In true fairy tale fashion I stumbled across the beauty in a post-Christmas sale rack, in none other than the right size and half of its original price.

Deep purples and burgundies are my favourite colours to wear in the winter months, and nothing says Christmas party more than a soft velvet fabric. Also, you can’t talk about this playsuit without mentioning the lace detailing up the back. Insert all the heart eye emojis.

If I was wearing the playsuit out in the evening or to a more formal occasion, I would definitely pair it with some black or silver heels. But for Christmas day I’m sticking to my trusty chunky black ankle boots (also Topshop).

Because I consider the playsuit to be quite a statement piece in itself, I’m keeping the jewellery simple, with my Olivia Burton watch, staple Tiffany bracelet and usual array of silver-coloured rings.

Now that we have a puppy, we’ll probably be venturing out into the cold on Christmas day to give her a walk, so I’ll be throwing on this oversized coat  (oh look, Topshop again).

I also like to make a little more effort with my face for Christmas, and this year I’m reaching for gold eyes and a berry lip.

Primer - L'Oreal Infallible Mattifying. Foundation - Bourjois Healthy Mix. Concealer - Rimmel Wake Me Up. Powder - Rimmel Stay Matte. Bronzer - Rimmel Natural Bronzer. Blush - Benefit Lollitint. Highlight - Benefit Highbeam. Brows - Soap & Glory Archery. Liner - L'Oreal Super Liner. Mascara - Maybelline Lash Sensational. Eyeshadow - Urban Decay Naked Palette I, Half Baked and Smog. Lips - Rimmel Lasting Finish Matte, 107.

Of course, by the end of the day I can usually be found in my onesie. A gal has got to make room for all the extra food, y’know.

What do you like to wear on Christmas day? Are you team pyjamas or do you enjoy the chance to get dressed up?
