Creating a Skincare Routine

As I’ve mentioned before, it wasn’t until I got into blogging and started reading beauty blogs that I started looking after my skin. Blogger girls have got your back, thanks pals.

Since then I’ve been gradually trying out new products and trying to introduce them into my everyday routines. My skincare routine is by no means perfect, and I’m not suggesting that anyone should be doing the same, but I wanted to share what I do with you so that I can talk through some of the products that I have loved since creating a skincare routine.

In fact, I am so sure that there are vital steps still missing from my routine (like, what even is serum?), so I would love to hear about any other types of products that I should look at adding into the mix, whether it’s for daily, weekly or even monthly use – let me know in the comments!

My Morning Routine

I keep things pretty simple in the mornings, and just stick to two products before applying my makeup. Though I apply these two even if I’m having a makeup-free day.

The first thing I do when I get out of the shower is spray my face with The Body Shop Vitamin C Energising Face Spritz. I actually got this product free when I signed up to The Body Shop’s rewards card, and I didn’t think much of it at the time, but I started using it nonetheless and I love it.

The Body Shop describe the spray as an ‘instant pick-me-up to refresh and smooth, and that’s exactly what it does. It feels so refreshing and hydrates my skin after a long night’s sleep. Honestly, I don’t even know if this is when you’re supposed to use the product within your routine, but it works for me and I will definitely be considering repurchasing it once it’s run out, or maybe trying another face spritz.

Finally in the mornings I use The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser. This moisturiser was one of my 2015 favourites, and I can tell it’s going to continue to be a staple product for a while. As well as making my skin feel amazing, it plays a strong part in waking me up in the mornings and the smell alone leaves me feeling energised and ready for the day.

My Evening Routine

In the evenings I use a lot more products, when I have time to spend on my skin. The first thing I do is remove my makeup with the Garnier Pure Active Micellar Cleansing Water and some cotton wool pads. It removes every last bit of my makeup and doesn’t ever sting my face or my eyes, like some eye makeup removers do. I follow this up with the Garnier Softening Toner, and I’ve definitely noticed a reduction in the amount of dryness I get on my face since using this product.

A new addition to my skincare is the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. Now I know that technically I could use this to remove my makeup too, but for some reason I don’t like getting makeup on the cloth, which is why I use the Garnier Micellar water first. Although the Liz Earle cleanser is a little pricey compared to high street cleansers, it’s definitely worth it.

I don’t use The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil every day, but if I can feel any breakouts coming through under the skin then I apply a little oil to these areas and it works magic. No swelling, no pain, and barely any redness.

Last up is The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask, which is a seemingly never-ending product. I love products that are good value for money so this ticks all the boxes for me. Super soft skin and a happy(ish) bank account – what more could you want?

As you can probably see, my skincare routine is quite basic at the moment, so I would love to hear any recommendations for other types of products you use, as well as other brands. I clearly adore Garnier and The Body Shop but I am always game for trying out new brands.
