High Street Style Haul: The Lisbon Edition

I’m always keen to find ways to include more outfit and style-related posts on my blog, so when I found myself (rather guiltily) returning to our apartment in Lisbon with a couple of shopping bags in tow, I had to make use of the mirror and backdrop of dreams.

What makes me feel slightly less guilty about my little spree, is that none of these items count as impulse purchases, since I had seen them in a different store the day before. I know, I know, that was a feeble attempt, but let’s pretend that it’s a perfectly legitimate excuse. Just this once.

I always love going into H&M stores abroad and comparing their stock to the UK, particularly in warmer climates where there is a lot more summer-appropriate clothing. I was immediately drawn to the pattern on this dress (similar here), and it’s perfectly complimented by the simplicity of the shape and the slits up the sides. It was ideal for the slightly cooler evenings in Lisbon.

The second shop I went to was Bershka. Although there are a few stores dotted around the UK, I can probably count the number of times I’ve been near one on one hand.

I was torn between getting this first item as a midi skirt or as this jumpsuit (similar here). Although I wasn’t sure if the cropped and flared cut of the legs was a style that would suit me, I decided to go for the jumpsuit to add something a little different to my wardrobe. I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone, because I’m a huge supporter of anything that looks like you made an effort but effectively feels like you’re wearing pyjamas.

Next up was this gingham playsuit (similar here and here) – another gem that is both comfortable and smart. The fabric is super stretchy, so whilst it’s a tailored fit and can be really dressed up, it’s a joy to wear. Clearly I’ve got my priorities all right.

I have a plain white Bardot top which I wore to death last summer, so when I saw rails full of them in Bershka I couldn't leave without another (similar here). There were so many different colours, but I decided to go for something patterned, since my white one is very basic. As the top is quite cropped, I'll definitely be pairing it with high waisted jeans now that I'm back in colder weather!

The final thing I picked up were these pinky-beige slip on shoes (similar here). I have a pair in this style but with a black crocodile effect which I wore all winter to work, so these will be perfect for the summer months (if I’m not being too optimistic).

I’m really happy with all of these items and I know I'm going to get so much wear out of them over the summer - definitely another genuine justification for having a holiday splurge…
